Marilyn, a Photomyne user, shared this magical photo of her grandmother and great-aunts, a piece of family history that won’t soon be forgotten.
Where was the photo stored until now?
This photo was given to me by a friend who lives in the same town. I scanned it the same day I received it to make sure nothing had happened to it!
What made you decide to scan it?
Whenever I receive photos, I usually scan them immediately to create a digitized copy I can use with my genealogy software. I love using Photomyne because it also allows me to create a people library, track people in the pictures I scan, and view my family together.
What is the story of this photo?
This is a family photo taken by photographer Lena Peterson in Rothsay, Minnesota, in the early 1900s. The family had several pictures taken by photographers, but this one features the girls of the Carlsrud family. My grandmother, Anna Josephine Carlsrud, is in the back left. She was one of 11 children, six girls and five boys.
The family emigrated from Norway with their two oldest children in the late 1800s, arrived in the United States, and eventually settled in Minnesota. This photo is super important to me as I'm very interested in our family history. It stands out because it showcases my grandmother and great-aunts as young women. Not many photos like this exist, so I'm thrilled to have it in my possession and have it saved forever with Photomyne.
What are you going to do with it now that it's digitized?
Once I scanned this photo, I was so excited to share it. So far, I have posted it on Facebook, showing both the original and the colorized version. Some of my relatives have commented about seeing their grandmothers in the picture. I also plan to add the photo to the pages for each of the women on the genealogy program I use so that all of this information is available.
Anything else to add?
I love having Photomyne available to use for scanning photos and slides!
