Jan 5, 1944. Geert DeVries and Griet VanderZwaag marriage. Tiny VZ and Hillie VZ mom‘s younger sisters were the bridesmaids. Mom‘s dress: a teacher in school was the daughter of the owner of a textile company and a school board member. She got mom, the fabric without ration points and made her the dress and a long slip, the veil was a friends which they cut down and remade. The shoes and white stockings were also the friends. Mom did not see her again until Oma‘s funeral. Geert wore a suit borrowed from a minister that his aunt Assel, a nurse ,used to for briefly when his child was born. That man also lent dad the necessary black gloves. The tall hat was borrowed from the blacksmith friends of Geert. The . The tie needed to be black-and-white. Oom Jap (Geert’s brother in law) was volunteered by his wife (Tante Wieke, Geert’s sister on the day of the wedding to exchange ties with dad. The girls dresses were made by.Tante Wieke ( Mom’s sister) out of curtain fabric from Opa’s store. Bows were made out of fabric. Normally used for underwear, shoulder straps.

Robert Roy Jernigan, Jr. b 28 Apr 1944

Clifford Lorenzo Kelley, born December 18th, 1910 in Maxwell Nebraska. Clifford is a World War II Veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force as a Corporal. He was stationed at Roswell New Mexico, at Roswell Air Force Base. Now known as Walker Air Force Museum. Clifford died on July 16th 1944 from drowning. He was 33, he left no wife or children behind. He had many abrasions on his forehead, chest and nose. This happened at the base and not in battle. It’s unknown at this time why and how he drowned. There was an investigation pending at the time his death certificate was written. So far I can’t find anything else on Mr. Clifford. I’m debating on writing to the museum to see if they have any records of what happened. Our theory is: Due to the descriptions of the abrasions it leads me to believe that he was attacked. Perhaps he got in a fight. Then maybe he was knocked out unconscious and they thought to just throw him in a body of water. If he was murdered, did he ever get justice? This is a theory though and we will never know until we start looking for answers.
