Our travels across the Great Plains from New Jersey. We had stayed in this cabin and my sister Eileen stood so close to the wall-heater that her hair caught on fire. Our mother had to cut her hair that got burned. We loved wearing our Rudolph sweaters we got for Christmas 1953.

This is my dad. I had never seen this picture until recently when a relative I have never met got in touch on Ancestry. It was spparantly taken in the 1950s before I was born. Sadly my dad died at a young 46 when I was only 13 but I love this picture of him.

My grandparents’ wedding photo taken in 1938, at their step-over in Vietnam during their trip from Shanghai to Bombay. They stepped off in Vietnam to get married. My grandfather was an officer for the Chinese KMT army, part of the allies.

Uncle Joe Hooley, from St Helens , Lancashire, about 1941 in his Welsh Fusiliers uniform. He was stationed in Newtownards and married my aunt, Emily McKimm living then in James’s Street, Newtownards. Uncle Joe took part in the D Day Landings in June 1944. He was taken Prisoner of War at the Battle of Caen in July 1944. He spent the rest of the war in various Stalags across Germany. He died in 1976 whilst I was stationed in Cyprus with the United Nations Military Police. I was unable to return to the UK for his funeral. Thankfully I had spent a few days with him in late December 1975 prior to embarkation to Cyprus. A lovely man.
