Edwin Robinson, my grandmothsrs brother 1920’s

Clifford Lorenzo Kelley, born December 18th, 1910 in Maxwell Nebraska. Clifford is a World War II Veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force as a Corporal. He was stationed at Roswell New Mexico, at Roswell Air Force Base. Now known as Walker Air Force Museum. Clifford died on July 16th 1944 from drowning. He was 33, he left no wife or children behind. He had many abrasions on his forehead, chest and nose. This happened at the base and not in battle. It’s unknown at this time why and how he drowned. There was an investigation pending at the time his death certificate was written. So far I can’t find anything else on Mr. Clifford. I’m debating on writing to the museum to see if they have any records of what happened. Our theory is: Due to the descriptions of the abrasions it leads me to believe that he was attacked. Perhaps he got in a fight. Then maybe he was knocked out unconscious and they thought to just throw him in a body of water. If he was murdered, did he ever get justice? This is a theory though and we will never know until we start looking for answers.

Aug. 8, 1919. Sent from SLC, Utah to Berkeley, California. On the back it says: "Arrived all on yesterday afternoon + went out to Saltair for a bath at once. Had a great time. Go sight seeing this morning. We miss you all so much. Papa.

In the Dutch East Indies long service leave (up to 2 years!) in the ‘Mother country’ was a standard entitlement for public servants. This photo depicts my grand parents, my mother (the child on the right hand side), her elder sister + some unidentifiable relatives relaxing on the beach in front of the Grand Hotel (Scheveningen) in the summer of 1906.

My grandfather, George Rueben Hawkes, (seated)he was born in Christchurch New Zealand in 1884, came to Australia where he married my grandmother, had 10 children and died in 1924.
